The Humanities have been addressing growing challenges for the past few decades, from budget cuts, department mergers and closures, to the increasing professionalization of the university—all of which is linked to students’ desires for undergrad degree programs that are linked to practical careers. These conditions have impacted the Humanities academic job market especially hard. This webinar will consider steps that graduate programs in our field might consider taking to try to respond to their current situation—one that continues to change, sometimes surprisingly quickly.
This is part of a monthly webinar series of AAR’s Academic Relations Committee (ARC); all of these meetings tackle topics of direct relevance to the success of a department (comprised of a 30-minute interview with the guest and then a 30-minute open Q&A for those attending the session). The webinars are recorded and eventually posted on the ARC page on the AAR site.
